First, when building the new system, we have to switch from the conventional hardware-centred

Virus Auto : Die Geschichte einer Zerstörung / Hermann Knoflacher. -

etwa die ungeheure Beschleunigung unseres Lebens und deren Auswirkungen,
weiters das ständige Wachsen von Österreichs Beton- und Asphaltdecke (diese wächst täglich um 21 Hektar!!), die Gewichtszunahme der Autos,
die Weltanschauung der autovernarrten 50er Jahre,
und schließlich erzählt Knoflacher von einem Besuch in New York, wo sein Hotel zu Fuß über Gehsteige nicht mehr erreichbar war.
Knoflacher warnt davor, große Infrastrukturnetze, die der Öffentlichkeit dienen, zu privatisieren. Er verweist unter anderem auf Los Angeles, das 1939 das größte Straßenbahn- und S-Bahn-System der Welt hatte. Später kauften ein KFZ-Hersteller, ein Treibstoff-Konzern und ein Reifenhersteller die privatisierten Öffis auf und legten sie schrittweise still. Heute ist dort ein Fortkommen ohne KFZ kaum möglich. Mit wunderbar spitzer Feder bringt er Fehlentwicklungen auf den Punkt: „Diese Ideologie [der schrankenlosen Privatisierung] wurde von den Ökonomen im Neoliberalismus zur vollen Blüte gebracht und führte in der Politik Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts zu einer weit verbreiteten Hirnlähmung.“
Schon eine Teilprivatisierung könne zur Zerstörung des Ganzen führen, sagt Knoflacher: Die ÖBB beispielsweise wurden in zahllose Unterbereiche zergliedert, wobei die Teilbereiche einander mit enormem Arbeits- und Finanzaufwand gegenseitig sämtliche Leistungen verrechnen. Jedes Einzelsystem will sich optimieren und profilieren. Dass das nicht funktioniert, weiß die Evolution schon seit dem Entstehen der Fadenwürmer (Nematoden), meint Knoflacher schmunzelnd. Denn schon die Fadenwürmer haben eine gemeinsame gehirnähnliche Steuerungszentrale.
Immer wieder lockert Knoflacher das Buch mit Anekdoten auf: Etwa von einem Radfahrer, der in einem Luxushotel abgewiesen wurde. Als hinter ihm der Chauffeur samt Limousine eintraf, der den radelnden Generaldirektor begleitete, wollte sich der Hoteldirektor entschuldigen, doch es war schon zu spät. – Hier geht es nicht um die Pointe, sondern vielmehr um die Frage, wie ernst und wichtig Radfahrer und Fußgänger in unserer Gesellschaft genommen werden.
Als Knoflacher 1975 dem zuständigen Wiener Stadtrat vorschlug, ins neue Verkehrskonzept auch den Radverkehr aufzunehmen, stieß er auf Unverständnis: „Was wollen Sie, ich musste im Krieg von Wien nach Prag mit dem Fahrrad fahren. Das hat mir gereicht“, so der damalige Stadtrat.
Vieles hat sich seither geändert, es gibt Radwege, gleichzeitig ist aber der KFZ-Verkehr geradezu explodiert. Endlich, muss man als Leser glücklich seufzend feststellen, hinterfragt jemand, nämlich Knoflacher in seinem Buch, die Ideologie des ständigen Wachstums. Gerade heute, wo Politiker ständig „von der Krise“ reden und hinzufügen, „das Wachstum“ werde uns da schon herausholen.
Der Verkehr nahm gewaltig zu, nicht aber die Anzahl der Wege, sondern meist nur die Länge der Wege, analysiert Knoflacher. „Mobilität ist immer Ausdruck eines Mangels am Ort“, wird zuweilen definiert. Wenn der Wohnort sich also als ungeeignet für Freizeit und Arbeit erweist, unattraktiv ist, verlängern sich die Fahrstrecken. Und der Verkehr macht die Landschaften wiederum erneut unattraktiver.
Im folgenden, brisanten Teil des Buches geht es um die Zerstörungen der Lebensumwelt durch den Verkehr. Vielleicht hätte man sich diese Themen schon etwas weiter vorne gewünscht, sie sind ja die zentralen Konfliktpunkte der heutigen Verkehrspolitik.
Der Kärntner Knoflacher schildert hier das einst wunderschöne nördliche Wörtherseeufer, wo sich die Touristen heute an die Abgase der Autobahn bereits teilweise gewöhnt haben. Er erwähnt Gewerbepark-Landschaften in Niederösterreich entlang von Autobahnen, die fast schon an ähnliche Gegenden in Nevada erinnern. Und er schreibt über den „abscheulichen Betonschlauch“ bei Klosterneuburg, für den ein Teil des Naturschutzgebietes der Klosterneuburger Au unterhalb vom berühmten Barockstift geschlägert worden ist.
Wo einst auf der Parndorfer Platte der streng geschützte Steppenvogel Großtrappe brütete, befindet sich heute das riesige Factory Outlet Center neben der Ostautobahn. Die Liste ist lang.
Die Zahlen, die Knoflacher liefert, sind verblüffend: Pro Tag werden auf jedem Autobahnkilometer (bei angenommenen 20.000 Fahrzeugen) ungeheure zwei Tonnen Erdöl verbrannt und als Abgase in die Umgebung abgegeben. In einer 5 Kilometer langen Gemeinde sind dies rund zehn Tonnen täglich! Trotzdem wollen viele Bürgermeister noch immer „eine Autobahn für ihre Gemeinde“, wundert sich Knoflacher.
Dabei ist auch die Hässlichkeit der Fahrbahnen und Parkplatzflächen ein Thema: Manche Gemeinden in Niederösterreich bekommen vom Landeshauptmann eine Fassadenrenovierung mitfinanziert, doch dahinter lebt das Dorf nicht mehr. Wirtshaus, Greissler, Post, sie alle mussten schließen, weil die ausufernde Mobilität dazu führte, dass man dort, wo man wohnt, nicht mehr „lebt“, nicht mehr isst, einkauft und einander trifft. „Leichenschminken“ nennt Knoflacher diese Fassandenrenovierung in toten Dörfern.
Als Mittel gegen die Verkehrslawine werden heute meist nur verbesserte Motortechnik und Abgastechnik genannt. Das Grundübel, die ausufernde Mobilität, wird kaum hinterfragt, kritisiert Knoflacher. Die Natur zeigt uns, dass in geschlossenen Systemen (wie es die Erde ist) ein kontinuierliches Wachstum irgendwann zu einem katastrophalen Zusammenbruch führt.
Optimierter Autoverkehr. Knoflacher vergleicht die Ausbreitung des Autoverkehrs mit einer Virusinfektion. Anfangs klingt der Vergleich merkwürdig, doch je genauer man hinsieht, desto mehr Parallelen werden sichtbar: Wenn eine Zelle von einem Virus befallen wird, arbeitet sie nicht mehr für den Körper, sondern für die Virusverbreitung. In ähnlicher Weise entwickelt eine Gesellschaft, die vom „Auto-Virus“ befallen ist, nicht mehr Strukturen für die Lebensqualität der Menschen, sondern Strukturen für einen optimierten Autoverkehr.
Auch wenn exakte Zahlen wohl schwer berechnet werden können, gelangt Knoflacher anhand von diversen Studien zur Schlussfolgerung, dass weltweit jährlich rund drei Millionen Menschen vorzeitig durch den Autoverkehr sterben (Unfälle, Abgase, Lärmwirkungen), während 50 Millionen Menschen langfristige Schäden verschiedenster Art davontragen.
Die derzeitige „Krise“ wäre eine Chance für eine innovative Trendwende im Verkehrswesen gewesen. Doch anstatt das System nachhaltig zu ändern, bewilligten europäische Staaten riesige Fördermaßnahmen, um alte durch neue Autos zu ersetzen („Schrottprämie“). More of the same, sozusagen.
Zuletzt skizziert Knoflacher verschiedene Strategien, wie man den Verkehr in Großstädten innovativ und menschenverträglich gestalten könnte. Anhand von Beispielen zeigt er, wie dies in anderen Weltgegenden schon teilweise gelungen ist.
Das verblüffendste Beispiel ist wohl eine riesige 11-Millionen-Stadt in Asien: Zwischen 1958 und 1976 wurde ein Fluss zubetoniert und eine gigantische Stadtautobahn errichtet, auf der bis vor wenigen Jahren täglich 220.000 KFZ unterwegs waren. Der Bürgermeister, übrigens zuvor in seinem Zivilberuf CEO eines Autokonzerns (!), ließ jedoch die altersschwach gewordene Autobahn 2003 ersatzlos (!) abreißen. Ein Fluss, jahrzehntelang unter der Autobahn „begraben“, wurde freigelegt, 16 Busrouten ersetzten den PKW-Verkehr, der Fluss wurde 2005 zu einer Erholungsoase, und die Wirtschaft im Stadtviertel blühte auf. Im Frühjahr 2008 wurde dieser Bürgermeister zum Staatspräsidenten gewählt.
Die Stadt ist Seoul in Südkorea, der Fluss hat den schwierigen Namen Cheonggyecheon, der Ex-Bürgermeister ist Lee Myung-bak, zuvor war er bei Hyundai, jetzt ist er Präsident von Südkorea.
„Virus Auto. Die Geschichte einer Zerstörung“ von Hermann Knoflacher ist ein erstaunliches Buch, absolut lesenswert, sowohl für autokritische Leser, die hier jede Menge Neues und Amüsantes finden werden, als auch für Autoliebhaber, die ihren Lebensstil nach dieser Lektüre vielleicht ein wenig hinterfragen werden. Das Buch ist weitaus spannender, als der etwas trocken formulierte Klappentext vermuten lässt. Ein Pflichtbuch für jeden Bücherschrank."

Il metro' ai piedi delle Alpi : Storia e caratteristiche della linea ferroviaria Airasca-Saluzzo-Cuneo.

Un libro per capire come eravamo, una ricostruzione fedele e ricca di documenti inediti su uno spaccato di storia delle ferrovie tra le montagne e il mare. "Il metrò ai piedi delle Alpi", fresco di stampa (Edizioni Grandapress, Cuneo), fa rivivere la storia e le caratteristiche della linea Airasca-Saluzzo-Cuneo. L'autore è Claudio Campana, avvocato, attuale sindaco di Robilante e soprattutto figlio di ferroviere che ha vissuto una parte della sua vita lungo quegli antichi binari, al casello di Vigone. L'affresco di Campana muove dagli albori del treno nel Regno di Sardegna, per focalizzare il quadro politico, economico e sociale in cui prese forma la tratta e il successivo completamento dei vari tronchi. Ma attorno al racconto imperniato sulla ferrovia che per quasi un secolo ha visto transitare locomotive, littorine, passeggeri e merci dal Pinerolese all'altipiano di Cuneo, rifioriscono dalla polvere del passato anche le alterne vicende di altre linee dismesse, tra Moretta-Cavallermaggiore, Bricherasio-Barge, Busca-Dronero, Cuneo Gesso-Borgo San Dalmazzo, Bra-Ceva, Mondovì-Bastia.
"Questa linea - scrive Campana nella presentazione dell'opera - fu concepita quale ferrovia pedemontana, ossia finalizzata a collegare strategicamente e commercialmente gli sbocchi delle numerose ed importanti valli alpine occidentali con Torino (verso Nord) e il mare (verso Sud), facilitando gli scambi dell'industrializzato Pinerolese e della fertile pianura di Saluzzo con Cuneo, Savona e Nizza". Non solo. Si ipotizzò di ampliare il progetto alla Valle di Susa, al fine di utilizzare l'Airasca-Saluzzo-Cuneo come nuovo asse della linea subalpina internazionale fra Ginevra e la Costa Azzurra.
Sogni di gloria malinconicamente sepolti da un ben diverso corso storico, che ha gradualmente ridimensionato "il metrò ai piedi delle Alpi" fino al taglio della linea negli Anni 80, inserita tra i "rami secchi" e dunque da sopprimere nell'ambito della politica di riduzione della spesa pubblica.
Ma l'evoluzione del concetto di trasporto, in questi anni di deflagrazione del traffico su strada, ripropone scenari nuovi. "Per andare avanti - sottolinea Daniele Borioli assessore ai Trasporti della Regione nella prefazione - occorre (anche) saper guardare indietro, riscoprire il patrimonio ferroviario che, in Piemonte, conta circa 2.000 chilometri di linee e consente di raggiungere angoli di territorio remoti…Si tratta di un patrimonio importante che potrebbe rappresentare, debitamente valorizzato ed attentamente amministrato, una risposta adeguata alle moderne necessità di trasporto, oltre che costituire un'opportunità di sviluppo turistico del territorio".

La gestione della catena logistica o supply chain ha assunto una particolare importanza strategica per il successo dei sistemi produttivi di beni e servizi. Nella comune percezione, supportata dalle numerose definizioni reperibili in letteratura, la catena logistica è formata da almeno tre organizzazioni tra loro comunicanti attraverso flussi di merci, di servizi, di informazioni e di denaro finalizzati al soddisfacimento del un mercato.
Dare una risposta strategica, e non solo tattica, in termini di gestione della logistica, della produzione e del marketing al numero sempre più crescente di prodotti che tornano indietro lungo la supply chain, sembra sempre più importante per ogni impresa industriale (e di servizi). Sono affrontati diversi temi nel libro in maniera chiara e stimolante per il lettore: il coordinamento tra i vari attori della catena di fornitura in termini di flussi informativi, fisici e finanziari, la gestione strategica e operativa del fenomeno, l'integrazione tra le varie funzioni in ottica di processo. Sono elementi fondamentali per il recupero di efficienza e di efficacia anche in ottica di servizio al cliente. Il lavoro cerca di inquadrare metodologicamente e anche con diverse evidenze empiriche la complessità del tema. L'approccio è stato verificato presso diverse imprese industriali, nonché con il confronto costante con illustri ricercatori americani. Un buona lettura per un manager che ha a che fare con questi problemi.

Environmental Dictionary EnDic. Environmental terms in nine languages: Finnish, Estonian, English, French, German, Swedish, Latvian, Lithuanian and Russian. The dictionary now also includes the Meteorological Dictionary MetDic.
The Environmental Dictionary EnDic covers a wide field of environmental protection and nature conservation, including such areas as meteorology, hydrology, environmental engineering, water supply and wastewater treatment, waste management and the environmental policy of the EU.
The dictionary has about 90,000 search words in different languages and provides definitions for 2,000 terms in English, Estonian and Finnish. The 9,000 meteorological terms of the MetDic dictionary are given in Finnish, Swedish and English.
The EnDic electronic dictionary is based on the EnDic2004 Environmental Dictionary, which was published in 2004 by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE). The MetDic Meteorological Dictionary of the Finnish Meteorological Institute was made part of the EnDic Environmental Dictionary in 2009.

Après une présentation générale de l'espace étudié, les infrastructures de transports (routières, ferroviaires, aéroportuaires, maritimes), les déplacements de voyageurs puis de marchandises sont abordés sous l'angle de la multimodalité. Cartes et graphiques sont complétés par de brefs commentaires décrivant l'organisation des transports de part et d'autre de la frontière.
Deux nouveautés introduites dans cet atlas : l'élargissement de son champ géographique à l'Espagne du Nord et une version internet en cinq langues ; cette version facilitera l'actualisation des cartes au fur et à mesure de la publication des données, et l'intégration de nouvelles cartes permettant d'améliorer la connaissance des transports.
